WG1 – Terminology
Activities at November 2023
During the year WG1 has been developing and obtaining consensus on a number of definitions with the intention of updating the IEC electropedia.
The first set of amendments detailing changes to the figures in the 192 electropedia together with changes to 32 definitions were submitted in May 2021 with the expectation that TC1 would update the electropedia in about 6 months. TC1 are currently unable to provide an implementation date.
During the last year, consensus on the definitions of the following terms was reached:
192-01-13 requirements
192-01-21 durability
192-01-23 availability
192-01-24 reliability
192-02-04 operating state
192-02-06 non-operating state
192-02-27 useful life
192-03-01 failure
192-06-02 maintenance concept
192-07-12 administrative delay
192-01-xx life profile
192-06-xx maintenance policy
Note: The comments received earlier from the review of the definitions of the above terms by TC 56 were addressed while developing the consensus
After some discussion, a definition of the term, obsolescence, was proposed as a final definition. A review of the definition by WG 3 was suggested.
In addition to the above, the definitions of terms in IEC 60050-192:2015 which refer to IEC 60050-191 in notes to the entry, were identified for deleting the references to such an old document.
Since WG 1 has processed all the definitions in Living Document, and it has not been successful in getting the amendments published in IEC Electrpedia, WG 1 has decided to start on the maintenance of IEC 60050-192 to capture the amended definitions, new definitions and other changes that are required, to make the amended definitions to the industry. WG 1 started this work at its meeting on November 22, 2023

News at November 2023
WG2 is continuing to work on:
- IEC 60300-3-11 – Reliability centred maintenance,
- IEC 61014 – Programmes for Reliability Growth,
- IEC 61025 – Fault tree analysis (FTA),
- IEC 62309 – Dependability of products containing reused parts – Requirements for functionality and tests,
- IEC 62506 – Methods for product accelerated testing,
- IEC 63142 – A global methodology for reliability data prediction of electronic components
WG2 has a shortage of active members for the updating of current standards and do not propose to progress further standards until the above have been completed.

WG 3 – Dependability Management and Systems
News at November 2023
Progress on work items
The following progress has been made on work items since the last Plenary:
MT21: IEC 62508 Human Aspects of Dependability.
A CDV has been sent to IEC and is currently being translated. It is expected to be issued very shortly
MT 23: IEC 60300-3-14 Dependability Management Application guide – Part 3-14 Supportability and support
A CDV has been issued and comments received. It is hoped to Issue an FDIS early in 2024.
MT 14: – 60300-3-10 Dependability Management Application guide – Part 3-10 Maintainability and Maintenance
CDV has been sent to IEC and is currently being translated Comments on the CDV will be considered in online meetings.
MT 25: 60300-1 Dependability Management : Part 1. Managing dependability
This document was put on hold until the CDVs for 60300-3-10 and 60300-3-14 were issued because it needed to refer to these documents under their new titles. An FDIS has now been submitted to IEC. Some editorial is still being dealt with.
PT 3.27: 60300-3-17: Dependability Management Application guide – Part 3-17 Availability
PT 3.27 has met online several times since the last plenary. The final few comments on the previous CD have been resolved and a new CD will be issued shortly at the beginning of 2024.
MT 62198 IEC 62198 Managing risk in projects.
A CDV has been submitted to IEC and is expected to be issued shortly. Comments will be addressed in online meetings.
IEC 62402 Managing obsolescence
The revision of IEC62402 involves the development of three parts. Part 3 (Data repository and notice of change – Obsolescence exchange formats) Although this was agreed by TC 56 in principle the titles and scope of the three parts had not been formally approved. A DC was sent out and comments were received. The scopes were agreed at the 2023 Plenary.
Part 3 is based on existing British and German standards. Although a CD was expected to be issued in 2022 for Part 3, it has proved difficult to obtain consensus on some issues and discussions are still in progress.
Part 2 (Costing of Obsolescence) is a new document work on the WD is progressing. An estimated date for the CD will be available shortly.
Part 1 involves minor changes to the current obsolescence management standard to accommodate the new parts and the addition of Annexe on conformity assessment. This cannot commence until part 2 has reached CDV stage.
PWI 57-27 dependability in Production and operations
A WD covering dependability in production has been produced and additonal text for dependability in operations is being drafted.
